It Happened One Night - Sean S

In the film "It Happened One Night," this scene concentrates on one of the many struggles that Peter and Ellie encounter on their journey. When they decide to leave the bus and continue on foot, they stop to sleep at night on bails of hay. In the background, there's shadows and fog which make it appear that they're lost and/or in an unfamiliar area (adding to the discontent of Peter). In the foreground you have Peter who is aggresively tearing and kicking at the hay to make a bed for himself, while he dealing with the thoughts going on in his head regarding how he feels about Ellie and how he's going to get them to New York. The lighting contrast in the picture is high.

The fact that the bails of hay, along with the dark, foggy background limit the how much the audience can view is interesting. It adds to the uneasiness and the tension of Peter and Ellie having to be in eachother's company. This is also shown since there is a considerable distance from where Peter is standing and Ellie is laying.
